Matamata Cross Country Course & Task Week - book now!
1st July 2010
Matamata Cross Country Course 22nd - 26th November
The Matamata Soaring Centre will be running a Cross Country Course again this year. It is tailored to pilots that have done at least their 5 hours and hopefully their Silver Badge. These courses are run to not only help the student pilots but to help the clubs give them the instruction required to get them flying cross country confidently and safely.
As CFI’s you should know your student pilots and what they require. I would like you to “tap on the shoulder” those that you think would benefit from the course, and give us an idea of what aspects you think they could benefit from.
I can’t guarantee a place for everyone, as we like to have a maximum of 2 students to every instructor ratio. I need numbers by early August as I have to get instructors, (they have to book holidays) get twins from the local clubs, and be sure we have the tow planes. Not to mention adequate time to issue notam’s if required.
Concurrent to this course will be a “Task Week”. Dave Jensen will contact the CFI’s about this in the near future. It is only for those that have done previous courses or have been in competitions.
Information for participants;
The dates are 22nd to 26th November inclusive.
All meals will be provided. This is of course very convenient and develops camaraderie and is included in the $240.00 price. ($100 course fee, to cover tow plane ferrying, and $140 for meals). This does not include aircraft hire or tow fees or accommodation.. The twins will be hired out at their Clubs rate. You will need a single seater for your own use. This may be shared with one other entrant.
The meals will be;
Breakfast – Serial, Fruit, Yogurt, Toast, tea/coffee. Morning tea/coffee
Lunch – Filled roll, fruit etc. Dinner – 2 Course with fresh bread
In other words you will be well looked after.

MSC Task Week 21st - 27th November
Do you want to fly with friends? Would you like to stretch your wings a bit?
Want to fly a few tasks rather than free flying? Want to fly mid-week?
Would like to encourage new X-country pilots into contests?
Do you want tow planes and retrieve people on-call?
Want to practise your wx forecasting and task planning?
Did you answer “yes” to one or more of these questions?
The opportunity has arisen to hold a Task Week alongside Matamata Soaring Centre introductory Cross-Country course the week before the Northern Regional’s.
We will have tow-planes, tasking facilities and friends on-site from the 21st Nov to the start of the Northern Regional’s. If the beginners X-country course is not for you, you have your only glider, or a club glider with the appropriate ratings, why not come along for some challenging tasks.
Weather forecasts and tasks will be set every morning. Launching will be with the X-Country course participants (as will be the beers afterwards), success is in your hands.
Task Week costs - $15 per day for each day you fly…no fly no costs. (Tows, accommodation, glider costs and so forth, at your expense). “Jan’s Happy Cafe” will be open - Cheap MEAL DEAL available - $140 for Dinner, Breakfast and Lunch for the 6 days.
Note – To participate in Task Week you need to have completed a X-country Course or competed in a formal gliding contest. If in doubt contact David Jensen
